Online store setup checklist

Use this checklist before picking a storefront, connecting checkout, or sending buyers to a new store.

Step 1

Choose the store platform

Start with the platform decision. A first store needs product pages, checkout, payments, order emails, themes, app support, and a clean admin area. A hosted ecommerce platform usually gets a seller live faster than stitching together separate tools.

Step 2

Prepare product pages

Each product needs a clear title, price, product photos, variants, inventory status, dimensions when relevant, delivery expectations, and an honest return note. Do not send traffic to products that still look like drafts.

Step 3

Set up checkout and fulfillment

Confirm payment settings, taxes, shipping zones, shipping rates, confirmation emails, order notifications, and refund workflow. Run a small test order before making a store public.

Step 4

Add the trust pages

Before launch, publish Contact, Privacy, Terms, Refunds, Shipping, and About pages. Store visitors look for these pages before trusting checkout, and search engines use them as quality signals.

Step 5

Run the launch check

Open the store on desktop and mobile. Check the header, product card, cart, checkout path, footer links, policy links, email capture, analytics tag, and support contact. Fix anything that makes the store feel unfinished.

Paid links, when present, are disclosed on the tool category page before the outbound link.
